Qout and out winner

House and Leisure, in partnership with SA Home Loans, revealed the House of the Year 2012 winner at a dazzling event in Joburg
HOUSE AND LEISURE'S HOUSE OF THE YEAR AWARD has become a highly anticipated annual contest, and the event during which the grand winner is announced is a hot addition to Joburg's social calendar. This year guests gathered at the fabulous new rooftop venue at 3 Desmond Road, Kramerville, where they enjoyed a spectacular view of Sandton, while waiting to find out which of the finalists would walk away with the coveted title.

The 11 homes each featured as House of the Month in one of HL's
2011 magazine editions, and again as a collective in a special supplement free with the June 2012 issue. On the evening, select objects similar to those in each home were displayed on crates from Clip-Lok SA (clip-lok.co.za), with images of the house, so guests could admire the diverse entries. Each home had a uniquely South African design aesthetic, but it was House 10 - Out in the Open - from the November 2011 Summer issue, that was announced as the voters' favourite on the night.
The winning house, an airy, contemporary Hout Bay property in a wooded mountainside setting, designed by architect Paolo Deliperi, is a splendid ode to modern design and high-tech function and form.
A glass-walled bathroom boasting magnificent views, a perfectionist's attention to detail, and gorgeous interiors by M+M Space Design were just some of the features that ensured House 10 came out tops.
A second winner on the evening was voter Judy Sparks from Port Elizabeth who walked away with a fabulous prize of R30 000 worth of Siemens homeware. The evening was a great success, with guests helping themselves to dinner from a delicious harvest table and dessert station prepared by Lara Meter of Food Goddess (foodqoddess.co.za). This was complemented by wines from Creation Wines (creationwines.com). Patron cocktails and coffee from Parks Cafe (parkscafe.co.za).
To round off the evening, guests enjoyed eye-popping entertainment by percussion crew 1st Project (1stproject.com) and a memorable performance by singer/songwriter Zaki Ibrahim (zakiibrahim.co.za). Special thanks to SA Home Loans (sahomeloans.com) for sponsoring the competition. We also thank Mud Studio (mudstudio.net) for the crockery and chandeliers, 3 Desmond St for the setting, Patron for the cocktails. Food Goddess for the delicious treats and ORA The Outdoor Boutique (oraoutdoor.com) for the outdoor furniture.
